Study Abroad Profile: Desiree Gaddis

Desiree GaddisProgram: Business School at the University Edinburgh
Location: Scotland
Rank: sophomore
Major: marketing and economics

“This past semester I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad at the Business School at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. I can't even begin to describe how much I've learned. University or "Uni" as they call it in the UK is so different from Ohio State in so many ways. For example, most classes starting junior and senior year are only held once a week, and three classes is considered a full load, yet class projects are often massive and you use all the time you can get.

It's so hard to pick a favorite memory or moment during my time abroad, but more often than not my favorite memories were the ones that came from seemingly ordinary days. Waking up, not quite knowing what the day would bring, just knowing it would bring some new surprise. Grabbing lunch with my two best friends from the trip, a Norwegian and Scottish girl. Sharing crazy stories from our home countries and making dinner plans before lunch was even done. Then spending the day exploring the old town after class. Maybe I'd stumble into the castle, perhaps the national cathedral, the cafe where Harry Potter was written, each day was its own adventure, full of some new story from the city I hadn't known before. While it was hard to be so far from home, I'll always remember how my time abroad taught me to find adventure in the most seemingly ordinary days.

desiree gaddisI've used every chance I've gotten to travel around Scotland and the rest of Europe. I even did a 10 day backpacking trip to five different countries, and spent my spring break traveling Scandinavia with some friends. I've met friends from all over the world and made memories that will last me a lifetime, yet I could not have done it without the love and support of my family and friends back home. I can't wait to be back at Ohio State to share my amazing experiences.”
