In the artist’s own words: "This photo was taken at the Brandenburg Gate. The man was selling pretzels to all the tourists visiting the monument, and he was wearing what appeared to be a military hat. It's meaningful to me from the perspective of what the Brandenburg Gate represents: "a symbol of the tumultuous history of Europe and Germany", and, on the other hand, in the picture we have a person peacefully wearing a military hat and selling pretzels."
