The Office of International Affairs (OIA) awarded close to $100,000 in grants to 13 faculty, 22 graduate students and two undergraduates to conduct international research and scholarship projects abroad and in the United States. Awards ranged between $1,000 and $5,000, and will be used during the 2023-24 academic year.
From Argentina to Zimbabwe, Australia to Uzbekistan and everywhere in between, faculty and students will travel to 38 different countries to advance their research and expand their global engagement.
Proposals for this annual International Research and Scholarship Grant were sought for a wide variety of projects, which included:
- Conducting international research and creative expression at home and abroad
- Addressing global issues in a regional context, including those in the Global South
- Advancing new global-oriented knowledge in disciplinary and/or interdisciplinary contexts
- Implementing projects and programs in diverse political, economic and cultural settings
- Exploring area studies, research and scholarship on any geographical or cultural region
- Developing and testing international education that enhances equity, diversity access, gender and racial justice
In the previous five competitions held, OIA partnered with the Office of Research, Student Academic Success and the Global Gateways to award more than $650,000 to support international research projects.
Recipients of this year’s grants represent the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Education and Human Ecology, Engineering, Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences and Social Work, as well as Ohio State Marion and the Mershon Center for International Security Studies.
