GOHi provides training on PHEM and COVID-19 surveillance

The Global One Health initiative (GOHi), in collaboration with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), delivered a four-day training on the basics of Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) and COVID-19 surveillance.

22 GOHi surveillance officers and coordinators participated in training at severe acute respiratory infections (SARI)/influenza-like illness (ILI) sites in Ethiopia. The respiratory and viral disease surveillance team from the EPHI, experts from the National Emergency Operations Center and GOHi facilitated the training.

Through didactic and practical sessions, this workshop aimed to improve facility officers' ability to detect and respond to priority reportable diseases, such as COVID-19. The training also taught officers the basics of outbreak investigation and how to respond to improve facility-level surveillance data management. Attendees will build system capacity in early detection and timely response to epidemic-prone diseases and other health emergencies and events.
