The Global One Health initiative (GOHi) provided a three-day training in June for healthcare workers from Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital (Addis Ababa University) and Zewditu Memorial Hospital on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) practices.
The training aims to create a critical mass of professionals who clearly understand IPC principles and practices to control and contain healthcare-associated infections. This training is part of a five-year, CDC-funded AMR project implemented in the two hospitals to enhance health facilities' capacity to detect and contain AMR threats of national and global concern, focusing on Carbapenemase-producing Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) for the first year.
Healthcare workers from different units and wards – mainly from intensive care units and surgical wards – were involved in the training. IPC experts from the Ministry of Health, GOHi Eastern Africa Office and the Centers for Disease Control-Ethiopia provided the training.
