GOHi participated in a national consultative workshop organized by the Ethiopian Public Health Institute, in collaboration with the Clinton Health Access Initiative, to develop a national strategy document on genomic surveillance for SARS-COV-2 and other pathogens.
A panel of experts from research and academic institutes attended the workshop from May 4-6 in Bishoftu, Ethiopia. Eyasu Tigabu represented GOHi as a reviewer expert. The strategy document is a first in Ethiopia – it provides high-level guidelines for establishing a nationally accepted pathogen and vector genomics system, which would enable organisms of public health relevance to be detected, eventually in real-time, under the National Institutes of Health.
