The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) and partners organized a workshop in Ethiopia in November to document and institutionalize Ethiopia's experience in COVID-19 pandemic preparedness and response. The findings will inform Health Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Resilience (HEPRR) efforts and be a reference for future use, enabling better preparedness and responses to similar public health emergencies. Additionally, the report will contribute to national planning, such as the National Action Plan for Health Security and contingency planning for imminent hazards.
It captures all aspects of the COVID-19 response, including national and sub-national preparedness efforts, and provides a comprehensive overview of the measures implemented to prevent and control the pandemic. The report also covers the pre-detection phase and the rapid response strategies implemented upon case detection.
GOHi has been supporting the government of Ethiopia in strengthening the national surveillance system and creating a resilient public health emergency management (PHEM) system in Ethiopia. Through the International Health Regulation (IHR)-Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, GOHi has been improving Ethiopia's capacity to meet IHR requirements to prevent, detect and respond to major public health problems.
