The Ohio State Global One Health initiative (GOHi) held a kick-off meeting for the new U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-funded antimicrobial resistance (AMR) project on February 22, 2022, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. High-level leaders from the Ministry of Health, Ethiopian Public Health Institute, Ethiopian Food and Drug Administration, Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital and Zewditu Memorial Hospital and other stakeholders attended, as well as representatives from the World Health Organization and the CDC's Atlanta and Ethiopia offices.
This project aims to significantly improve AMR surveillance, detection capacity and infection prevention and control practice in facilities and hospitals throughout the country. The meeting gave an overview of the Global Action in Healthcare Network, AMR global challenges and the project's objectives, scope and implementation plan.
