In collaboration with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), the Global One Health initiative (GOHi) conducted a protocol preparation workshop for Simulation Exercise (SimEx) – a tool to monitor and evaluate countries' International Health Regulations capacities – to 15 participants in April.
This SimEx aims to help develop, assess, test and evaluate the functional capabilities of Ethiopia's public health emergency systems, procedures and mechanisms by simulating a response to an evolving public health emergency. The workshop also enables individuals to practice their roles and functions, gain experience in a simulated emergency setting and identify and address issues before an emergency occurs. As a learning tool, the exercises allow participants to learn and practice emergency response procedures in a safe and controlled environment.
GOHi and the EPHI conducted the workshop to help participants decide which type of exercise to run, when to perform these exercises and prepare the necessary documents for the actual SimEx. The two organizations worked with the National Early Warning and Data Management Center and the Public Health Emergency Operation Center.
