The Global One Health initiative (GOHi), in collaboration with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute, provided a two-day clinical specimen training in April to healthcare workers from Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital (TASH) and Zewditu Memorial Hospital (ZMH). The GOHi Eastern Africa office led presentations, practical demonstrations and discussions for 53 healthcare workers from TASH and 25 healthcare workers from ZMH.
This training aimed to improve participants' knowledge and skills in appropriate clinical specimen collection and transportation for microbiology laboratories, focusing on blood and urine samples.
As part of a five-year U.S. Centers for Disease Control-funded antimicrobial resistance (AMR) project being implemented in selected hospitals in Ethiopia, this training will help enhance health facilities and reference laboratories' capacities to detect and contain AMR threats of national and global concern.
