On March 26, the Global One Health initiative (GOHi) delivered laboratory equipment and materials to five hospital-based laboratories damaged during the recent conflict in Ethiopia, such as:
- Microscopes
- Incubators
- Centrifuge machines
- Vortex mixers
- Laboratory balances
- Computers
- Printers
- Refrigerators
- Laboratory chairs and tables
- Bio-safety materials
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) authorized the use of existing grant funds already awarded to The Ohio State University to accomplish this goal. The supplies and equipment will significantly improve critical laboratory services, disease monitoring and surveillance networks to run the routine laboratory services and support prevention and response activities to current and future public health emergencies. Ethiopian media outlets, the Ethiopian Minister of Health, and the U.S. Embassy posted on social media about this work.
GOHi is currently planning the second phase of support with CDC, which will include technical support and capacity-building activities in the selected five hospital laboratories.
