GOHi conducts review of AEFI surveillance

In collaboration with the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA), the Global One Health initiative (GOHi) organized a meeting to review Ethiopia's national adverse event following immunization (AEFI) surveillance system, focusing on data management.

Participants discussed the available AEFI data disaggregated by antigen, seriousness and causality assessment status with 20 participants from the EFDA's pharmacovigilance team and technical assistants from partner organizations. At the EFDA's request, participants uploaded nearly 24,000 AEFI data backlogs to the global database, /VigiBase/.

The review has been crucial to evaluate the performance, identify the gaps and lessons learned and give future directions on focus areas, especially regarding AEFI data management.
