The Global One Health initiative (GOHi) provided advanced monitoring and evaluation training to Public Health Emergency (PHEM) officers, monitoring and evaluation officers and surveillance officers from national and regional public health institutions and regional health bureaus June 14-16 in Addis Ababa.
Monitoring and valuation is a crucial component of the Ethiopian PHEM system. GOHi provided training to improve the monitoring and evaluation at different levels, thereby increasing the program's capacity to handle outbreaks and any other emergencies effectively. The training will help PHEM experts obtain foundational and advanced technical skills for monitoring and evaluation that will boost their confidence when and fill the gaps in the PHEM system. Objectives of the training included: monitoring and evaluation foundational training of approaches/frameworks: fit-for-purpose tools to implement monitoring and evaluation approaches for PHEM (e.g. logic models, performance indicators, data collection tools, data system designs, protocols etc.); and models to allow data-driven decision-making (e.g. AAR, statistical analyses, data use approaches, etc.).
The training will help participants develop the appropriate evaluation questions, logic models and performance measures/indicators. In addition, the participants will obtain technical skills in descriptive and inferential data analysis to develop models for data-driven decision-making.
