As a continuation of the Global One Health initiative's (GOHi) commitment to combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Ethiopia, GOHi collaborated with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) to deliver master Training of Trainers (TOT) training in clinical specimen collection for participants selected from AMR-surveillance-participating health facilities in March 2022.
This second round of clinical specimen collection, national TOT training took place from June 16-18. The training will help clinicians recognize, reduce and combat AMR through practicing proper specimen collection. Master-level trainees are expected to train other TOT trainers who will train selected clinicians and laboratory professionals at health facilities annually.
The training was developed for physicians, nurses and laboratory technologists. Eyasu Tigabu, GOHi senior laboratory expert, was involved in technical preparatory work and conducted the training in collaboration with the EPHI AMR team. In this second round, 23 participants learned proper clinical specimen collection at the TOT level. These trainees are also expected to train health care workers at the facility level.
