The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) recently recognized the Global One Health initiative (GOHi) for its outstanding contributions towards strengthening Ethiopia's national Public Health Emergency Management and laboratory system.
In a recent workshop, the EPHI reviewed the national COVID-19 response and discussed integrating COVID-19 response functions into the existing routine health system programs with national and regional stakeholders.
During the workshop, the EPHI acknowledged GOHi's instrumental support in pandemic preparedness and response, particularly in building the national public health system through the CARES Act project to battle current and future public health threats.
GOHi helped establish the first four sub-national advanced diagnostic molecular laboratories for influenza and other respiratory illnesses and re-enforced the existing public health surveillance system by providing a robust workforce and capacity building.
During the recognition ceremony, the institute's Director General and Deputy Director General deeply appreciated GOHi's contributions. Leul Lisanwork, program manager for the GOHi Eastern Africa office, received a certificate of recognition.
