Sally A. Miller is a Distinguished Professor of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences in Plant Pathology at The Ohio State University in Wooster, Ohio. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Ohio State and her master’s and doctorate degrees in plant pathology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Miller’s research focuses on developing sustainable disease management strategies for conventional and organic vegetable crops in open field and protected production systems. Through her research, Miller provides diagnostics and disease management advice to growers, extension educators and other agricultural professionals.
As a GOHi executive committee member, Miller actively participates in One Health research, notably on food safety, antimicrobial resistance and food security. She has carried out long-term international agricultural development projects focused on food security and safety through integrated pest management in South and Southeast Asia, Ukraine, West and East Africa and Central America.
In her most recent work, Miller examined plant health and its effects on food safety and security in a One Health framework.
She is a Fellow of the American Phytopathological Society and served as president in 2015 and 2016. She has served on the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine Forum on Microbial Threats and its One Health Action Collaborative. Miller was also named to the Roster of Experts for the joint Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and World Health Organization Expert Meetings on Foodborne Antimicrobial Resistance.
