The Graduate School awarded Isis Barra Costa, professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, the 2023 Graduate Faculty Mentor Award (GFMA). This award recognizes her exceptional mentorship to graduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences. On April 26, Barra Costa attended the Graduate School’s annual award ceremony at the Ohio Union and was honored by Dean Mary Stromberger.
In July, Barra Costa visited Ohio State’s partner university, São Paulo State University (UNESP), São José do Rio Preto campus. Welcomed by long-term collaborator Gisele Manganelli Fernandes, Barra Costa spoke at a conference about Afro-Brazilian poetry and participated on a panel focusing on UNESP students’ research.
