Brazil Gateway to host Summer 2023 Webinar Series

The Brazil Gateway’s Summer Webinar Series will focus on tips for those looking for undergraduate and graduate education and research opportunities in the United States.

The three webinars will feature an Ohio State student, a higher education specialist from Fundação Estudar, a Brazilian nonprofit, as well as a former visiting scholar and an Ohio State faculty member from the College of Education and Human Ecology.

International university applications: Crafting your personal statement

On Wednesday, August 2 at 11 a.m. EDT/12 p.m. BRT, hear from Mario Codispoti, an undergraduate student double majoring in Spanish and international business with a minor in computer information systems. A speaker of multiple Romance languages, Codispoti studied intermediate Portuguese in São Paulo with Tulane's Summer in Brazil program. He will share his experience applying to universities in the United States and will give tips on how to write a personal statement that will draw the attention of admission officers.

How to apply to graduate programs in the United States

On Wednesday, August 9 at 11 a.m. EDT/12 p.m. BRT, learn about the graduate application process in the United States, the importance of self-knowledge and how to finance your studies abroad. Beatriz Alvarenga, who graduated in international relations from Fluminense Federal University, studied academic mobility in Montréal and has 15 years of experience in the internationalization of higher education, will lead this discussion. She currently manages Estudar Fora, a pillar of Fundação Estudar that works to share information and provide guidance about academic opportunities abroad for Brazilians.

Virtual post-graduation: A research and development experience at Ohio State

On Saturday, August 19 at 11 a.m. EDT/12 p.m. BRT, hear from Edmea Santos, a faculty member at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro and former visiting scholar with Ohio State's College of Education and Human Ecology, and Ana Paula Correia, professor and director of the Ohio State College of Education and Human Ecology's Center on Education and Training for Employment. They will share their experience about their hybrid research period at Ohio State.
