On June 22, the Brazil Gateway, Office of Academic Student Success, Office of Student Life and Office of International Affairs hosted a virtual Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) for Brazilian and South American students admitted to Ohio State. In addition to new undergraduate, graduate and professional students and incoming visiting scholars also attended the event.
The Ohio State team shared information on multiple how-to’s: getting involved on campus, preparing for the first semester, using housing, dining and health services, preparing for arrival and using Buckeye Link.
“The virtual PDO was incredible and clarifying. I got there with so many questions and left will a lot of answers and valuable tips,” Vitoria Teixeira Goncalves, incoming neuroscience undergraduate student, said.
On June 25, the Alumni Club of Brazil and the Office of Academic Student Success sponsored a lunch organized by the Brazil Gateway for incoming students from São Paulo. Undergraduate and graduate incoming students and families gathered to get to know each other and make connections before arriving on campus.
“The gathering in São Paulo was very interesting and valuable because we had the opportunity to meet other future Buckeyes and their families. My daughter Beatriz Barros and I really enjoyed the lunch,” said Gabryela Andrade.
“This was the first in-person event outside of the office, and it feels wonderful to finally welcome new Buckeyes with the warmth of Brazilian events,” noted Jane K. Aparecido, director, Brazil Gateway.
