Robert Baiocchi, MD, PhD, professor in the Division of Hematology at Ohio State, Executive Committee member of the Global One Health initiative (GOHi) and member of the Leukemia Research Program at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – The James, will receive the Ohio Cancer Research (OCR) 2022 Sanford Goldston Memorial Research Award in December. OCR is an independent, statewide, nonprofit organization that has provided over $2.12 million in seed money to researchers at Ohio State and Nationwide Children’s Hospital – money that has generated over $252 million from other sources to continue work based on initial success.
Baiocchi’s clinical research is dedicated to patients with aggressive lymphomas, post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease and AIDS malignancies. He oversees basic and translational research of the Division of Hematology’s lymphoma group. Funding from OCR was instrumental in driving early efforts that led to the discovery of a novel class of cancer drugs that are currently in clinical trials. Baiocchi’s lab team also collaborates with research groups across the nation and in sub-Saharan Africa to develop novel treatments for patients with lymphoma.
