The Alumni Club of South India was established in May 2022. The new club is based in Chennai and will focus on alumni engagement in four states: Andhra Pradesh-Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nādu, Kerala. This is the second alumni club in India, the Alumni Club of India was established in 2018 and is based near Delhi.
India Gateway spearheaded the forming of the first club and worked closely with The Ohio State University Alumni Association and its regional engagement officers to identify an audience and location for a second club. The Alumni Club of South India is one of 120 international clubs that cater to the 45,000 Ohio State alumni that live abroad.
Shankar Venkatachalam, president, Vamsi Varanasi, vice president, Archana Pothina, secretary, and Rajesh Durairaj, treasurer, are the officers for the new club. In-person meetings were held in Hyderabad and Chennai on July 16 and 17 respectively to welcome the office bearers and set the agenda for the new club’s activities. Discussion items included ideas for funding events and volunteering opportunities for alumni in enrolment and academic-related activities.
