Buckeyes Abroad: Lauren Moorhead

“I saw this as a great opportunity to become more independent and immerse myself in a completely different culture. As a business major, I also wanted to strengthen my global mindset by understanding how companies operate around the world,” reflected Lauren Moorhead, a finance major who participated in the Fisher College of Business Freshman Global Lab: Germany program.

During this two-week experience, business students attend lectures at Kühne Logistics University in Hamburg, Germany and visit corporations like Mercedes Benz and Nestle to learn about global logistics and operations.

“This experience has helped me to better understand how interconnected today’s business world is. While I continue to pursue a career in finance, I will be working with people from different backgrounds and cultures. The skills that I have developed, including adaptability, communication, problem solving and cultural awareness, will help me become a more effective leader and professional in the future,” she noted.

Along with gaining business expertise, the group got to experience everyday life and German culture through guided tours to historic sites and interacting with locals in Hamburg, Berlin, Bremen and Lubeck. Through the program, Moorhead gained skills she can use in the classroom, in her future career and in her everyday life.

“This study abroad experience taught me that growth often comes from being uncomfortable. Whether it was navigating a new city, trying new foods, meeting new people or adapting to a different culture, each challenge helped me become more independent and confident in myself.”

Out of the whole program and after visiting several cities and companies, one particular visit stood out for Moorhead, along with the lasting relationships she formed with her classmates.

“I really appreciated getting to learn from industry professionals. One of my favorite business visits was Mercedes Benz in Bremen. Seeing all the work that goes in behind the scenes was so fascinating. Beyond academics, the people I met on this trip made Germany feel like home. I was able to meet an incredible group of students, and I made so many lifelong friendships,” she shared.
