Feyissa Regassa serves as an infection prevention and control (IPC) officer at the Global One Health initiative (GOHi) as part of the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) project. He focuses on combating AMR by leading IPC initiatives as well as developing and implementing policies and procedures to reduce infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms. At GOHi, he continues to build on his extensive experience, driving efforts to strengthen healthcare systems and mitigate the impact of antimicrobial resistance. Regassa is also embedded in Addis Ababa University's College of Health Sciences Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital.
During his tenure at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital, Regassa played a pivotal role in establishing and leading an independent IPC unit and drove a wide range of IPC initiatives across all points of care within the hospital. His contributions included developing and implementing protocols that significantly enhanced infection prevention practices.
Additionally, he served as the secretary of the hospital's Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee, where he was instrumental in promoting the implementation of infection prevention and control protocols to contain the spread of infectious agents.
Since 2018, Regassa has been an active member of the National IPC Technical Working Group under Ethiopia's Ministry of Health. In this capacity, he has provided expert consultation on developing and revising national IPC guidelines and standard operating procedures. He has also contributed to supporting healthcare facilities through supervision and capacity-building efforts.
Regassa also led the design and implementation of epidemic preparedness and response initiatives, working closely with local health authorities and international partners. His leadership was crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic and internal conflict, where he helped ensure continuity of care and effective infection control measures.
