In his role as the academic director for the Brazil Gateway, Fabio Leite, associate professor in Experimental/Cognitive Psychology at Ohio State Lima, connects with partners, alumni and current and future students to build and grow long-lasting relationships. To work towards that goal, Leite recently visited Brazil, where he presented on internationalization strategies through Ohio State’s Global Gateways at the Brazilian Association for International Education (FAUBAI) conference and held almost 20 meetings with academic and non-academic partners and alumni in three different cities: São Paulo, Salvador and Recife.
“The FAUBAI conference gave us a chance to highlight our new journey. We see the growth potential in Brazil for academic collaborations and have invested in and encouraged our faculty to develop or strengthen their partnerships with an eye toward the long term via bilateral external support,” Leite said.
In São Paulo, Leite also attended a breakfast at the U.S. Consul General’s residence for the launch of the 100,000 Strong in the Americas grant with the National Industrial Apprenticeship Service (SENAI) and taught a psychology master class to incoming students and the community about how humans think and behave.
“Building and nurturing relationships involves listening, being open to ideas and being honest about what equitable and sustainable collaborations might exist in the future – this visit reinforced that,” Leite said.
