Due to recently announced federal immigration rule changes affecting international students and visiting scholars in the United States, immigration information on this website is subject to change. The new rule takes effect on September 15, 2026. Ohio State is reviewing the changes and will update this website as additional information becomes available.

I-94

One of your most important immigration documents

  • Check your I-94 every time you enter the United States.
  • Make sure your admissions category and expiration date are correct.
  • Be sure to keep a copy of your I-94 for your records.
  • Your status is your responsibility. You will need to monitor your I-94 expiration date and other immigration deadlines.

You can get your most recent I-94 on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website at i94.cbp.dhs.gov.

Please check all details on the i-94:

  • Most recent date of entry: Be sure that it reflects your most recent date of entry into the United States.
  • Class of Admission: F1 or J1.
  • Admit until Date: Students who enter on or after September 15, 2026, will have an AUD instead of D/S. 

For current F students admitted for duration of status who are present in the United States on the final rule's effective date of September 15, 2026: 

If you are currently in the United States and later travel on or after September 15, 2026, you will have an updated I-94 with a fixed admission date/AUD.

For current F students who travel on or after September 15, 2026:

The Admit Until Date (AUD) is the Program End Date on your I-20/DS-2019, up to a maximum of four years (plus a 30-day departure period).

If your Program End Date is less than four years: 

AUD = Program End Date + 30-day grace period 

If your Program End Date is more than four years: 

AUD = Four Years + 30-day grace period

If you are on post-completion OPT/STEM OPT:

AUD = EAD card end date + 30-day grace period
