Eligibility
This optional dental insurance is for visiting scholars with the Scholar health insurance, the Gallagher Plan.
A U.S. social security number is required, so only those with a U.S. social security number can apply. You will be given the option of obtaining a U.S. social security number when you check in at the Office of International Affairs.
Scholars can apply at any time.
Is dental insurance mandatory or required?
Dental insurance is not required. However, if you want to purchase dental insurance, you can learn more about your options.
Please note that there is a six-month waiting period before you are eligible to receive some benefits and 12 months for others. Please consider this before you purchase this dental insurance. Due to the waiting period before you are eligible to receive some benefits, it is not recommended for Short-Term Scholars to purchase this insurance.
Optional Discount Card
Another option is a discount card. This is not insurance. Discount cards provide savings on dental services, prescription drugs, vision care and hearing care. For one flat yearly fee per household, you and any dependent family members accompanying you in the United States may use the discount card to receive a reduced payment on healthcare products and services from participating dentists and companies.
