Two Buckeyes honored with International Alumni Award

Two Brazilian alumni were recognized by the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences Alumni Society with the 20201 International Alumni Award. The award is presented to outstanding international agriculture alumni representing, supporting, and promoting the college and The Ohio State University around the globe. The honors were bestowed upon Claudio Ribeiro and Yuri Zinn during the 50th Annual CFAES Alumni Awards ceremony held virtually on March 4, 2021. Watch the reception below:

Claudio Vaz Di Mambro Ribeiro (PhD '05, Animal, Dairy & Poultry Science) is a faculty member at the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil. Dr. Ribeiro teaches undergraduate courses on biochemistry, graduate courses on ruminant nutrition and biochemistry, and, as a member of the Food Science Graduate Program, courses on chromatography to School of Pharmacy graduate students.

Dr. Ribeiro’s work at the Federal University of Bahia also includes coordinating the Chromatography Analysis Laboratory in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences, while his research focuses on ruminant nutrition—including, recently, studying bioactive molecules in donkey milk.

Yuri Lopes Zinn’s (PhD '05, Soil Science) academic passion and professional interests both come down to the soil, and it was soil, too, that brought him to Ohio State. Zinn is now an associate professor in the Department of Soil Science at the Federal University of Lavras in Minas Gerais, Brazil. An active member of CFAES’ Carbon Management and Sequestration Center since he studied under Rattan Lal, Zinn facilitates the exchange of graduate students between the universities. He has advised and mentored more than 55 students in their research and actively participates in community outreach through extension projects in Lavras.

A total of 555 individuals have been honored with at least one of four CFAES awards, Young Professional Achievement Award, International Alumni Award Distinguished Alumni Award, and Meritorious Service Award. Each of these categories is designed to showcase individuals who have contributed to their community, industry, or the College through their careers. These 443 men and 112 women represent every food, agricultural, and environmental industry as well as countless other industries that help to sustain life. They hail from 14 countries, but all share the common thread of connection to the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.
