National One Health Steering Committee hosts two-day workshop to revitalize technical working groups

As part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s International Health Regulations project in Ethiopia, GOHi is supporting the National One Health steering committee in the region. GOHi organized a two-day workshop on, "Revitalizing National One Health Technical Working Groups." Desalegne Degefaw, associate director, delivered the opening remarks and attended the workshop.

As part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) portfolio projects, GOHi is supporting the Ethiopian National One Health platform through various activities. GOHi is a member of the National One Health Steering Committee (NOHSC) and all of the technical working groups. With the objective of revitalizing the technical working groups, GOHi and Resolve to Lives (RTSL) jointly organized a workshop from June 1-2 in Adama in collaboration with NOHSC .

The workshop reactivated the Ethiopian One Health technical working groups (TWGs): Anthrax, Rabies, Brucellosis, Emerging Pandemic Threats, Antimicrobial Resistance and One Health Communication, to maximize their contributions for the advancement of multi-sectoral coordination mechanism at all levels.

As part of this objective, challenges were identified, and discussions took place on how to overcome the challenges. The participants of the workshop included members of NOHSC and of the TWGs as well as relevant government officials and institutions and development partners from a broad range of relevant disciplines.

GOHi will continue its support as part of its commitment towards strengthening the National One Health platform in Ethiopia.
