Hawley Awarded Fulbright ASEAN Research Program Award

Joshua Hawley, associate professor in the John Glenn College of Public Affairs and associate director of the Center for Human Resource Research, was awarded a Fulbright ASEAN Research Program Award to Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam during January – May 2021.

Hawley will join Thailand Development Research Institute, Chiang Mai University, International Islamic University of Malaysia and Vietnam National University of Economics and Business to research approaches to labor market planning for technical and vocational education. His proposed study will examine labor market data systems and their use by the education systems in Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam and will lay the groundwork for a new model of how data can be used in educational planning.

“I hope to compare the ways governments approach labor market planning in Asia and produce new knowledge that we can apply both in the U.S. and in other nations,” Hawley said. “This Fulbright marks a return for me to Asia. I lived and worked in Thailand in the 1980s and 1990s for a number of years. I am excited to return to Chiang Mai University specifically, where I was an exchange student in 1988-89.
