On September 14, the Brazil Gateway and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) hosted a virtual event to discuss biosafety protocols in dental clinics during COVID-19. Close to 40 people attended the event that aimed to share experiences from faculty members at Ohio State and at UFRN.

Purnima Kumar, PhD, professor of periodontology at Ohio State’s College of Dentistry, shared Ohio State’s perspectives, challenges and new protocols. Gustavo Henrique Apolinario Vieira, PhD, professor of undergraduate programs at UFRN, shared UFRN’s efforts and protocols being used in Brazil’s public health system.

Delane Rego, PhD, a professor at UFRN who was a visiting scholar at Ohio State in 2015, closed the event by emphasizing how special collaborations between both institutions have been.
