The China Gateway welcomed 349 students and family members virtually and in-person this summer over three Pre-Departure Orientation events – one held virtually and two in-person in Shanghai and Beijing. Students who have yet to visit Ohio State learned from our volunteers and alumni about the Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC) facility, working in the dining facilities, making new friends and adjusting to college life in a foreign country. 

The challenges international students face are often beyond our imagination – the barriers of language and culture, the transition to life as a college student and now the health and safety concerns relating to COVID-19. Throughout the last year, executive leadership at the university formed several taskforces on campus to focus on supporting international students. 

We hope with a growing dedication to supporting international students and guidance to further international partnerships, Ohio State will continue to be an extraordinary destination for Chinese students and scholars to study and visit.
