Racial Justice and Equity in the United States

Featuring Amanda Yusko

High-profile instances of racial profiling and police-involved deaths have heightened existing social tensions in the United States.

Following the tragic deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, individuals of all backgrounds across the United States and the world joined in solidarity against racial injustice. Many have participated in demonstrations and shared their voices through social media.

As the result of much media attention, some students may be feeling confused, sad and angry about the events that have taken place.

For those students seeking emotional support, resources are available through the Ohio State Wellness app, the Office of Student Life’s Counseling and Consultation Service and the Buckeye Peer Access Line (PAL), which operates Monday through Friday from 8 p.m. to midnight (EST) when classes are in session.

The Office of International Affairs invites students to join the campus and Columbus community in finding solutions to advance and uphold values of equity, justice and respect, and to educate yourself on ways you can uplift and support those being disenfranchised.

As President Michael V. Drake stated, “We must be the change we want to see.”
