Global Citizen Spotlight: Chineze Okpalaoka

Chineze Okpalaoka earned her MBA on May 3, 2020.

"In my six years as a student at Ohio State, I connected with the Office of International Affairs in various capacities – as a member of Model African Union, as a Fulbright U.S. Student Program recipient, as the Program Coordinator for the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, as a Student Consultant for the Ohio State Brazil Gateway, and finally as a Graduate Research Associate with Cindy Jiang," reflects Chineze Okpalaoka (’15 and ’20), a two-time graduate of The Ohio State University, who earned her MBA degree on May 3.

"I joined the analytics unit of the Office of International Affairs during the second year of my Fisher College of Business MBA program, and I could not be more grateful for the opportunity to apply my classroom instruction to projects that have personal resonance and global significance," Okpalaoka explains. Study abroad, Fulbright and personal travel has allowed her to explore Brazil, Namibia, Peru and South Africa, twice during her academic career.

As her supervisor, Senior Research Associate Cindy Jiang observed a truly global citizen with a bright future. "Chineze has been involved in two research studies on intercultural learning and global competence in the past year. Her future is limitless, and I know she will be a passionate leader in wherever the path carries her. She has achieved many goals in her years at Ohio State. But most of all, she is a great example of a globally engaged student with her experience of studying abroad and community engagement. I’m proud of the fact that OIA has played a role in her education."

Okpalaoka appreciates the impact of her global engagement both abroad and by working with the Office of International Affairs, "I am truly thankful for each of these invaluable experiences and the many ways they have broadened my perspective, expanded my network, enriched my relationships, and motivated me to continue engaging the world around me."

Next up for Okpalaoka is a career opportunity at JPMorgan Chase & Co.
