International Strategic Planning Process is Launched

The Ohio State University OvalThe Ohio State University is set to launch an international strategic planning process in mid-April, which will result in an ‘International Strategic Plan 2020-2025’ to be presented to the President and Provost for approval by February 2020 for implementation in spring 2020.

Provost and Executive Vice President Bruce McPheron has formed a steering committee composed of senior academic and operational leaders to ensure that the International Strategic Plan is academically aligned, and operationally sound. A successful plan will clearly articulate the academic priority for internationalization and the implications for the operations side of the university. The composition of the steering committee includes representation from the colleges, regional campuses and administrative units.

Karla Zadnik, Dean of the College of Optometry, will represent the health sciences colleges; David Williams, Executive Dean of the Professional Colleges and Dean of the College of Engineering, will represent the professional colleges; and Gregory Rose, Dean and Director, The Ohio State University at Marion, will represent the regional campuses.

Gil Latz, vice provost for global strategies and international affairs, in partnership with Randy Smith, vice provost for academic programs, will co-chair the steering committee. The steering committee will meet quarterly and be assisted in its work by Ohio State’s Chief Strategy Officer, Gail Marsh, and Robin Helms, an external expert on campus internationalization from the American Council on Education, both of whom will provide consultation and guidance on the strategic planning process.

The strategic planning process will consist of engaging and listening to stakeholders, synthesizing and analyzing information and documenting and prioritizing recommendations.

The Office of International Affairs along with a variety of university stakeholders will play a vital role in the work and outcomes generated through the strategic planning process.
