Ohio State ranked as one of the top 50 Best Global Universities

The Ohio State University is one of the world’s top 50 global universities, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2019 Best Global Universities rankings released today. The rankings compare 1,250 universities in 75 countries based on academic research and overall reputation.

Ohio State received a global score of 74/100 and is tied for 46th with Boston University and the University of Munich. The methodology to determine the rankings used 13 different factors – each weighted separately – to measure global research performance. The highest weighted indicators included global and regional research reputation and the number and percentage of publications among the 10% most cited.

This year, U.S. News also included rankings by country, region and subject. Fields including agricultural sciences, chemistry, clinical medicine, computer science, mathematics and physics, and arts and humanities were measured using a different set of criteria based on the academic research performance and reputation of the institution. Ohio State is ranked 17th in space science and 26th in physics.

Ohio State has been recognized for its global reach in other recent national rankings. The university is currently ranked second as a top producer of Fulbright Scholars, 5th for the number of students who study abroad and 17th for the number of international students enrolled. In 2016 Ohio State was one of four finalists for the Association for Public Land Grant Universities' Global Learning, Research and Engagement Award and was the recipient of the NAFSA 2014 Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization.
