India Gateway Announces New Director

Nikhil TambeThe Office of International Affairs is pleased to announce Nikhil Tambe has been appointed director of the India Gateway. He will be located in Mumbai, and his first day was June 1.

In his role at the India Gateway, Tambe is responsible for developing strategies to support Ohio State’s academic mission in India, serve as a liaison to Ohio State faculty and partner institutions, promote inbound and outbound student mobility, identify funding sources and negotiate contracts and oversee the university’s strategic engagement in India.

Prior to joining the India Gateway, Tambe was a technology leader at Eaton’s Corporate Research and Technology based in Pune, India, and was responsible for strategic planning, technology portfolio development and execution, talent management and external partnerships. He also managed programs and led applied research in nanotechnology areas for GE Global Research Center in Bangalore, India.

Tambe holds 13 issued and pending patent applications and over 16 international peer reviewed journal publications. He earned his PhD and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from The Ohio State University and his bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from Maharashtra Institute of Technology in Pune, India.
