Close to 2,000 new international students to arrive this autumn

Ohio State is expecting close to 2,000 new international students to join the Buckeye family this autumn semester.

They hail from all over the world – a total of 68 different countries will be represented including Albania, Bangladesh, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Iran, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia and Turkey.

The leading home countries for the new international students are China (1,380), India (236), South Korea (104), Malaysia (36) and Taiwan (30).

The Office of International Affairs plans and organizes orientation for international students once they arrive at Ohio State to help them prepare and acclimate to life in Columbus and at an American university.

During orientation, students receive important information regarding campus safety, student legal services, health and wellness, immigration regulations, cultural adjustment and useful academic resources available to students.

The global engagement team, with the help of student orientation leaders, coordinates a series of events and activities that take place from July 31 - August 22. New international students have the opportunity to go on campus tours, have group lunches at local spots, go shopping, attend sporting events and visit surrounding neighborhoods.
