Sustainability conference in India to help frame solutions

The Ohio State University, Indian Institute Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) and Techstain Technologies will host a one day symposium, “Science and Engineering of Sustainable Development.” The symposium will be an annual event and the inaugural symposium will be held on July 26, 2017 at IIT Bombay and focus on the “Sustainability of Earth and Water Resources from an Ecological Perspective.” Priya Kurle, assistant director of the Ohio State India Gateway, is helping coordinate the event.

The day-long symposium will identify the cross-linkages between the concepts and practice of sustainable engineering. It will bring together thought leaders and practitioners across multiple sectors to deliberate upon the critical challenges facing India’s sustainable development and brainstorm the direction needed for exploring potential solutions.

The symposium is being held to create awareness and provide the connections necessary to bring sustainability and resiliency studies from the periphery to the forefront of all engineering research and development initiatives. It also will serve as a platform for representatives from corporations to academia to government and NGOs to begin framing relevant and implementable policies for a clean environment. Discussions will help evolve the sustainability governance framework at the global level with special attention to the emerging economies like India, and build and maintain linkages between academic research, immediate industry needs, corporate governance tools and governmental planning to support such initiatives. The registration procedure will be announced soon at www.techstain.in.
