Ako-Adounvo appointed to senior leadership position

Gifty Ako-Adounvo, Assistant Vice ProvostOhio State Provost and Executive Vice President Bruce McPheron has appointed Gifty Ako-Adounvo, Assistant Vice Provost for Global Strategies and International Affairs, to lead the Office of International Affairs while a search is conducted for a new Vice Provost for Global Strategies and International Affairs. In this interim role, she will serve as the senior international officer for the university.

Ako-Adounvo has more than 20 years experience in the field of international affairs in higher education, and she currently oversees a wide range of the Office of International Affairs' university-wide programs, activities and services including, education abroad, international student and scholar services, and the development of international agreements and partnerships.

Her national leadership service includes NAFSA, the Association of International Educators, where she has presented on issues relevant to international students and the innovative ways in which institutions are meeting their needs. She is also a member of AIEA, the Association of International Education Administrators, where she has provided insight and counsel to colleagues from institutions around the world.

Prior to her administrative role in International Affairs, as a faculty member she taught in both the Department of Classics and in the Department of African American and African Studies. She earned her doctorate in classical studies at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, and joined Ohio State in 2004. Before arriving at Ohio State,she held positions at the University of Illinois and the University of Maryland.
