Students from Greek councils serve in Dominican Republic

Buck-I-Serv program in Dominican RepublicOhio State students from four Greek councils participated in a Buck-I-SERV service and learning program in the Dominican Republic during winter break. Students from Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and Panhellenic Association deepened their academic and intercultural understanding as servant leaders through community engagement. The program focused on the themes of education, service, and the relevancy of these international issues for college students in Greek Life.

Based in the Bateyes, the program supported nomadic Haitian sugar cane working communities. Due to being of Haitian descent, the majority of its inhabitants have been marginalized by Dominican society and have some of the lowest standards of living in the country. From January 2 - 10, students worked on infrastructure rehabilitation, agricultural work with local farmers, health initiatives, and education projects with local children.
