Ohio State hosts Acting Secretary of Labor in immigration discussion

As a leading global university, Ohio State hosted Acting Secretary of Labor Seth D. Harris in a roundtable discussion about immigration policy on Wednesday, April 3 at the Ohio Union. William Brustein, Ohio State’s vice provost for global strategies and international affairs, believes Ohio State is the perfect setting for a dialogue about issues that are of tremendous international significance. Ohio State is home to more than 6,000 international students and nearly 1,500 visiting international scholars who come to the United States to fulfill their academic dreams. Their presence at Ohio State enriches the economy and their skills and experience play an integral role in fulfilling the university’s land grant mission to the state of Ohio.
Ohio State’s international population lends to the global landscape of the university and enhances diverse perspectives both inside and outside the classroom. The university is committed to encouraging international graduates to live in work in Ohio. “We want to be supportive of those international graduates in the STEM fields who are highly trained – the best and the brightest – to stay in Ohio and contribute to our growing global knowledge base,” Brustein said. “We not only want to educate these students but we want to benefit from their knowledge and expertise.”
