Ethiopia has taken a significant leap forward in bolstering its vaccine safety monitoring efforts. In a move aimed at enhancing the nation’s ability to effectively detect, assess, understand and prevent adverse effects of vaccines, the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority, in collaboration with the Global One Health initiative, organized a high-level national Vaccine Safety Surveillance Review Meeting in late September to assess reporting practices, data quality and systemic gaps.
Discussions centered on evaluating current systems for tracking adverse events following immunization, identifying challenges in reporting and recommending improvements to strengthen data management. Participants explored strategies to enhance collaboration among national and regional stakeholders, with the goal of improving the overall reliability and timeliness of vaccine safety surveillance.
This collaborative effort reinforces Ethiopia’s commitment to vaccine safety and sets the stage for ongoing improvements in tracking and analyzing health risks. Vaccine safety data management is a cornerstone of global health security, ensuring that immunization programs are effective, trusted, and responsive to emerging threats.
