Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships

Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships are available for Ohio State graduate and professional school students who are pursuing a course of study which requires advanced foreign language and area studies training, as well as select undergraduate students (see each center's FLAS page for eligibility requirements).

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Commitment to studying a FLAS-eligible language, and its area of the world
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
  • Full-time enrollment, or admission acceptance to be enrolled full time
  • Academic year fellowships require both language courses and courses pertinent to related world areas. Summer fellowships require an intensive language program.
