Description

Join Dr. Nicole Ann Amato for this virtual teacher training session on how to use Mexikid by Pedro Martín in your classroom and find engaging ways of adding it to your curriculum. In this session, participants will learn to assess text complexity in graphic novels and to develop creative responses to literature that leverage visual literacies and storytelling.

Mexikid, published in 2023, tells the story of a Mexican American boy's family and their adventure-filled road trip to bring their abuelito back from Mexico. It is also the winner of the 2024 Américas Book Award, which is given to works that authentically and engagingly portray Latin America, the Caribbean or Latinos in the United States, and the 2024 Tomas Rivera Award for Mexican American children’s literature.
