The Engaged Scholars and Practitioners Community of Practice is intended for faculty and staff whose scholarship and outreach connects the universitys resources to pressing social, civic, and ethical challengesdrawing inspiration from Ernest Boyers definition of engaged scholarship:
Connecting the rich resources of the university to our most pressing social, civic, and ethical problems.
(Boyer, 1996, The Scholarship of Engagement)
If you're unsure whether this group aligns with your work, consider the following questions:
- Are you collaborating with a community partner (broadly defined) to address a critical issue using your academic expertise?
- Are you conducting scholarship and/or outreach that explores university-community partnerships, including their challenges and opportunities?
- Are you interested in learning how to engage more deeply with communities to help address societal challenges?
If you answered yes to any of these, we invite you to join our community of practice.
This will be a semi-formal, inclusive space where members can:
- Learn from one another
- Build meaningful relationships and networks
- Explore collaborative principles and partnerships
- Share insights, challenges, and best practices in engaged scholarship
