Wednesday, July 13, 2016 - Today the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia issued a temporary restriction on travel by its mission personnel to the city of Gondar in Amhara state due to recent reports of violent demonstrations. Ohio State has one known graduate researcher in Gondar and communication has been established with the student. The university is collaborating with its security provider so the student may be temporarily relocated to Addis Ababa. In addition, the international risk manager has recommended the curtailment of any current student travel to Gondar and advises the temporary suspension of any additional university travel to Gondar until more information on the security situation is obtained.

Ohio State is actively monitoring the developments in Istanbul, Turkey following the attacks at the Istanbul Ataturk Airport. The university has three graduate students with approved research plans in Turkey this summer. All travelers have been accounted for. Two are currently outside of Turkey for research and the third has checked-in at their research site well away from Istanbul.

In March, the International Travel Policy Committee (ITPC) suspended undergraduate programming in Turkey. The suspension remains in place and all graduate student travel plans to Turkey must be reviewed by the ITPC and authorized by the provost.
