Applying Online for Supplemental Travel Insurance

Student Enrollment Process

Students admitted to and enrolled in an Office of International Affairs education abroad program are automatically enrolled in the GeoBlue insurance.   

Students undertaking international travel on non-Office of International Affairs education abroad programs should complete the following enrollment process. This should be completed at least three weeks prior to enrollment so it can process and allow you to receive your coverage and access GeoBlue’s resources prior to departure. If you do not have an active Ohio State username and password, or if a university department is paying for your insurance, please disregard the following directions for using the online application system. Instead, please download, complete and return the Student Insurance Enrollment Request Form.

All other students should enroll online using the following instructions:  

  1. Please visit the Online Supplemental Travel Insurance Application and log in with your Ohio State username and password. Note that the application may take some time to load. The supplemental travel insurance application is a modified version of the online education abroad application system. However you will not be enrolled or charged as an education abroad program participant. You will only be enrolled in the supplemental travel insurance and only be charged for the insurance premium.

  2. Enter the term code that matches your date of departure: 
    2016 - 2017
    AU 16 = 1168

    SP 17 = 1172

    SU 17 = 1174

    2017 - 2018
    AU 17 = 1178

    SP 18 = 1182


    Choose your term based on the start date of your coverage. For example, if your start date falls within summer term, choose summer as your term of application. If for any reason the application system will not accept the term chosen, you may select another term for your term of application. If you selected summer and it was not accepted, choose autumn instead.

  3. Enter program code INDP SA SR
    Please note that you will not be able to make chances to the "Student Information" section. If the information automatically populating this section is incorrect, do not save the application. Close your browser and log in to your student center at buckeyelink.osu.edu to make any changes to your student information. Once you have made the needed changes, you may begin the insurance application again.

  4. In the "Personal Statement" field, enter the following information:
    -Coverage start and end dates (Should include from the day of your departure from the United States through the day of your return)
    -Purpose of your travel (e.g. study abroad, research, conference attendance, internship)
    -Please indicate the primary country(ies) and city(ies) where you will be located for your international activity
    -If you anticipate extra travel to other locations during your time abroad, please list those separately
    If you do not fill out this information in this required field, your insurance enrollment will not be processed.
  5. Once you have completed all fields and forms, click "Submit." The charge for the supplemental insurance premium will be posted to your Statement of Account. Please monitor your Statement for this charge. Once the charge has posted, you must log in to your student center at buckeyelink.osu.edu to submit payment.

    Once your insurance enrollment has been processed, you will receive an email with your insurance documents directly from GeoBlue.

Faculty and Staff Enrollment Process

All faculty and staff traveling abroad with students are eligible to enroll in the supplemental insurance. The insurance includes coverage in addition to what is offered in the university benefits plan. If you are leading a study abroad program offered by the Office of International Affairs, the insurance is included in the program budget and you will be sent an enrollment form from your education abroad coordinator. If you are traveling with another program or group of students, you can enroll by completing and submitting the Faculty and Staff Insurance Enrollment Request Form.
