Brazilian culture and language

The Ohio State campus community engages in Brazilian culture and language via an academic department, an Area Studies Center and education abroad programs.

Research

Brazil has many world-renowned academic and research institutions where students can gain experience working together with Brazilian researchers in laboratories or in the field. Ohio State has existing programs and funding opportunities for students seeking to conduct research in Brazil, and students can also pursue a customized research project by working together with a faculty advisor and the Brazil Gateway.

Internships and fellowships

International internships and fellowships are available at Ohio State corporate, governmental, and NGO partners and students are also able to pursue new opportunities with the support of the Brazil Gateway and Ohio State’s alumni network in Brazil. Current Brazilian students looking for information regarding your immigration status, should contact an immigration coordinator at the Office of International Affairs at iss@osu.edu or by calling 614-262-6101.

Visiting Scholars and Postdocs


In general, the steps necessary to become a visiting scholar or postdoc at Ohio State include:
  1. Research the department you would like to work with/for.
  2. Identify a faculty member who is doing research/teaching in an area of interest to you.
  3. Contact the department and inquire about the possibility of being an exchange visitor.
  4. Once an agreement has been reached, the Ohio State department will send you a link to fill out your information.
  5. Your department completes their section of the information and submits it to the Office of International Affairs (OIA).
  6. OIA prepares your immigration document. 
  7. Your department sends you the DS-2019 immigration document so you can apply for your visa.
Scholars must be able to obtain or have available funding for the length of their stay. View the minimum annual funding needed to cover living expenses and health insurance at Ohio State.
