Student Health Insurance changes for Spring 2021

International students who are taking classes and are residing in the United States must enroll in the Ohio State’s Student Health Insurance Benefits Plan.

Starting Spring 2021, students will be automatically enrolled through Buckeyelink’s Statement of Account regardless of the mode of instruction assigned to their course enrollment.

International students that remain in their home country to take only distance learning credits are not subject to the Health Insurance Requirement and may request the Student Health Insurance fee to be removed from their Statement of Account.

Students can request the fee to be removed from their Spring 2021 Statement of Account by emailing shi_info@osu.edu with attached copies of their Most Recent I-94 page and Travel History page(s) for any arrivals and departures in 2020. Students can view their I-94 at i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94. Documentation must be received prior to the January 4, 2021 deadline.

Please note:

  • International students enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Benefits Plan for Autumn 2020 will continue to be enrolled for Spring 2021.
  • International students that requested and were granted a fee removal for Autumn 2020 by providing their I-94 documentation will also have the fee removed for Spring 2021. Should a student travel to the United States for Spring 2021, they will need to contact the Office of Student Life’s Student Health Insurance to enroll in the required coverage.
  • The Spring 2021 fee will post to all other international students that have not confirmed their residency the Office of Student Life’s Student Health Insurance.
