2022 Fulbright and Fulbright-Hays Reception
On April 5, 2022, Executive Vice President and Provost Melissa Gilliam recognized students and faculty from The Ohio State University who are recent Fulbright and Fulbright-Hays recipients and finalists, as well as visiting Fulbright students and scholars from around the globe, during a reception at the Interfaith Prayer and Reflection Room in the Ohio Union.
Provost Gilliam congratulated the honorees on their accomplishments and noted that Ohio State is one of only five universities named a top producer of both Fulbright U.S. scholars and students in 2022. She acknowledged how the Fulbright and Fulbright-Hays programs enhance the quality of global understanding and encouraged all the Fulbright fellows and scholars to connect across communities, combine expertise and create new ways of thinking.
As host of the reception, Vice Provost of Global Strategies and International Affairs Gil Latz introduced two Fulbright personal reflections. Liz Klein, professor in the College of Public Health, discussed the five months she and her family spent in Australia via a Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Applied Public Policy grant to Flinders University and Carnegie Mellon University. Jasmine Stork shared her experiences as an English Teaching Assistant at the University of Opole in Poland via her Fulbright U.S. Student Program award. Her reflection is available to view online.
The reception took place during the 13th Annual Fulbright Week at Ohio State, April 4-8. The Office of International Affairs and the Undergraduate Fellowship Office combine their efforts to plan a week full of events acknowledging past recipients and hosting workshops, information sessions and open houses designed to inform potential faculty, undergraduate and graduate student applicants about the opportunities available through the Fulbright and Fulbright-Hays programs.
